Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions's save data can't be reset on 3DS, echoes of Capcom's Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

That old familiar feeling

Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions's save data can't be reset on 3DS, echoes of Capcom's Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions, Namco Bandai's compilation of arcade classics for the Nintendo 3DS, features a permanent save system.

You know what that means: no resetting your progress or your high scores.

A report in Wired notes that one game in particular Pac-Man Championship Edition stores just a single score at a time, so you can neither track your progress, nor let a friend borrow the cartridge to try and beat your record.

The compilation offers six spins on Pac-Man and Galaga - including the original arcade versions of each franchise. Selected remakes and a brand-new 3D shooter round out the package.

Here we go again

If this all feels and sounds a bit familiar, that's because it should.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D pushed Capcom into the headlines for the same reason - permanent saves - but the developer promised it wouldn't make the same mistake twice.

The lower profile of Namco's Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions means it probably won't kick up quite such a storm, but it could be a further sign of things to come.

Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions is available now in America and Japan, with a European release scheduled for August 26th.
