Rumour: Apple to release iPhone 5 in US on September 5th, global roll out to start a month later

According to a senior executive at Swiss carrier Swisscom, the next iteration of Apple's iPhone will hit US shores on September 5th, before rolling out across the rest of the world a month later.

Further fueling the fire, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg reportedly confirmed that a future iPhone will be released "in the fall" during a conference call with analysts held over the weekend.

Joining the party

If that hasn't firmly whetted your appetite for a new Apple handheld, Boy Genius Report is reporting that US telco AT&T has begun internally distributing plans for the launch of the device.

According to the tech site's source, the North American carrier has started to inform employees and retail store managers to quickly finish any training courses, and prepare for a bombardment from customers in September.

MacRumours, for its part, is also reporting that Apple is actively recruiting some of its former retail store workers on a part-time basis between August 15th and September 15th.

It's possible

All this, of course, fits nicely with comments made during Apple's recent earnings call, where Apple CFO Peter Offenheimer confirmed a 'future product transition' in the September quarter.

We generally take the majority of Apple rumours with a pinch of salt here at PG Towers, but things seem to be falling into place too nicely with the iPhone 5 launch for us to ignore.

As always, we'll keep you updated with new developments.
