Our enthusiasm for LG’s first (in the UK at least) 3D phone, the Optimus 3D, is reserved at best.

It’s not that the phone doesn’t look great - although the use of Android Froyo at launch is a little eyebrow raising. It's mainly thanks to the suspicion most developers won’t bother making 3D games for it in the first place.

Now a spokesperson speaking to The Inquirer has said that the phone will not only be getting Gingerbread in October, but that once it does it will be able to convert 2D games into 3D no matter what the game was designed for in the first place.

If true, this effectively adds 6 billion Android apps to the list of 3D titles for the handset, which sounds far more enticing than six old Gameloft games.
