Originally released as Z back in 1996, but now called Z The Game as the App Store doesn't allow single letter titles, The Bitmap Brothers's real-time strategy game has just been released for iPad and iPhone.

It was developed as a collaboration between licence owner The Bitmaps and two of the original developers - Tony Kavanagh and Peter Harrap (of Monty Mole fame).

Described as, "a faithful and thoroughly modern reworking of the title", it retains the full 20 campaign levels, five planets, and 30 minutes of cut-scenes, as well as some offbeat comedy.

The fight is on

A typical conflict for resources, Z features six robot units, each with its own individual personality, plus tanks, jeeps, repair vehicles, armoured personal carriers, field guns, and missile launchers.

You also capture and control buildings ranging from factories that manufacture robots and vehicles to radars and vehicle repair facilities.

Obviously, touchscreen controls and Game Center support have been added.

Z The Game is out now as a Universal build, priced $4.99, €3.99, and £2.99.
