LG Optimus 3D set for release on July 7th in the UK

Following last week’s news that LG’s latest flag-bearer, the Optimus 3D, will be out in a few weeks, The Carphone Warehouse has begun accepting pre-orders for the handset - dating the exact day as July 7th.

The LG Optimus 3D is the first dual-core 3D phone to hit these green shores (or anywhere, to be less specific). Utilising the screen technology recently seen in the Nintendo 3DS and two rear-facing cameras, the Optimus 3D can both display, snap, and film 3D videos.

Confusingly, The Carphone Warehouse lists the date as July 27th for launch on the pre-order site at the moment, despite press releases saying otherwise, so if it doesn’t show up in a couple of weeks you know why.

I can’t say I was overly impressed with the 3D games when I had a go on the device back in February, but the combination of Gingerbread, a 4.5-inch screen, and the ability to turn from 3D to 2D on the fly make it an intriguing prospect.
