Down, but not out

Heroes of Might and Magic III no longer on Android Market

Just half a day after reporting on the arrival of Heroes of Might and Magic III coming to Android via the open-source VCMI, it appears that the app has been removed from the Market.

Could it be another case of Google clamping down on the app, as with the recent crushing of emulators? Maybe another trojan was detected, as with those Angry Birds cheat apps earlier in the day?

In actual fact, the cause is a little more down to earth.

The developer, Pelya, has removed the app itself after the game crashed excessively during testing, mindful that discerning Android gamers might not want their handsets locking up during play.

The app has now been put on the computer form of a hospital sick bed while the cause of the problems are rooted out, with the developer citing a memory alignment problem possibly being the cause.

There's still a chance that HOMM fanatics will get another shot at playing their favourite game on their handsets, though, as the developer has told Pocket Gamer that the app has only been removed 'for now' - suggesting it will make a return at a later date.
