Following Rovio's announcement of a new update for the original Angry Birds outing, the feather-flinging developer has released the latest chunk of Angry Birds Rio for iOS.

This new episode - soon to hit the Android version, too - introduces 15 carnival themed levels, each packed to the rafters with marmosets, balloons, colourful decorations, and your usual array of destructible scenery.

If you're tired of flinging the same old fowl over and over again, you can even wreak havoc with a brand new bird type.

Angry Birds Rio sees your angered birdies – who must now be seriously furious - escape their captors in the magical city of Rio de Janeiro. Determined not to leave a good bird behind, the remaining avian must save their two macaw friends Blu and Jewel.

Like other entries in the series, you can also discover hidden objects – fruit in this instance - and unlock several Game Center achievements to show off your skills.

You can grab Angry Birds Rio from the App Store on iPhone for 59p / 99c / €0.79 and on iPad for £1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39. It's free on the Android Market.
