WWDC 2011: Real Racing 2 HD is first iOS game to support wireless big screen gaming over AirPlay

Though the next iteration of iOS will remain in Apple's engineering pit lane until the autumn, the maker of Real Racing 2 HD already has an iOS 5 treat in store for driving enthusiasts everywhere.

Australian development team Firemint has announced that Real Racing 2 HD for iPad will support AirPlay display mirroring, allowing you to screech around a track on the big screen without a fiddly wire in sight.

Eagle-eyed PG readers will recall Firemint incorporating similar capabilities into its high-def racer in April, but that requires a Digital AV Adapter and a HDMI cable.

Come the launch of iOS 5 in the autumn, players of Real Racing 2 HD will be able to hook their iPad 2s up to their 42-inch plasmas wirelessly via AirPlay and an Apple TV set, using the tablet's motion controls to direct the on-screen vehicular delight.

The iPad screen also displays track telemetry whilst you drive, making the whole experience even more seamless.

Alongside full AirPlay mirroring, iOS 5 will usher in much-needed enhancements to Game Center and a Notification Center that should reduce unwelcome interruptions mid-session.
