Cloud gaming service Onlive Player to launch on iPad and Android tablets in the autumn
|

While the streaming-only app OnLive Viewer has been out for a good six months now on iPad, later this year gamers on both iOS and Android tablets will be able to actually play titles from the cloud through their tablet PCs with OnLive Player.

Unlike Viewer, which only lets you watch other people playing games, Player includes control overlays and support for the fancy-looking gamepad called the Universal Wireless Controller.

As it works off cloud computing, the relative power of the device you’re working with has no relevance on how it runs the game.

What that effectively means is that (in theory) you’ll be able to play titles from the home consoles directly from your tablet, as well as access Flash games if you’re using an iPad.

The games can then be outputted to an HD display if the machine is capable of doing so, just in case you miss big screen gaming.

There’s no details yet as to how much the service will cost, but we do know that it is likely to land on the respective app stores this autumn.
