The next iPhone will be 'smaller and thinner', says Orange CEO

Stephane Richard, the France Telecom/Orange CEO who previously "confirmed" that the iPad would include a webcam, has let slip some details about the next-generation iPhone.

In an interview with AllThingsD, he mused that he "understood" the new iPhone will be smaller and thinner, as well as telling us more about the new, smaller SIM card Apple is co-developing.

Although saying new technology, particularly new Apple technology, will be 'smaller and thinner' is akin to saying new sliced bread will be 'breadier' and 'slicier', 9to5 Mac has speculated on the reason behind Richard's comments.

One possibility is that Richard is making a logical assumption based on Apple's need to develop a smaller SIM card, while another is that the smaller SIM cards are for the much-rumoured 'iPhone nano', codenamed N97. Richard simply refers to "the next iPhone", so it's much more likely to be the full, fifth-generation iPhone.
