Pocket Legends is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game from Spacetime Studios, available for iOS and Android.

Set in the fantasy world of Alterra, the game charges you with aiding the Elf Queen and saving a kingdom overrun with evil.

With a first birthday celebration under its belt and a whole host of previously premium content now free, there may not be a better time to start playing Pocket Legends.

This guide is designed to get all you noobs out there up and running.

Remember, how you play the game is ultimately down to personal preference - don't be afraid to experiment.

Characters

Pocket Legends features three character classes for you to choose from – Warrior, Enchantress, and Archer – each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Choosing the correct character is perhaps the hardest task Pocket Legends throws at you.

Here is an outline of each.

Warrior

Warriors wield bladed weapons such as swords and axes, and protect themselves with shields.

They have the ability to take - and deal - large amounts of punishment, as well as draw the attention of foes from other team members.

If you like to get stuck into fights and you aren't scared of taking a little damage, this is the class for you.

Enchantress

The Enchantress (or Mage) uses staffs, wands, and magic to attack her foes from a distance.

She has the ability to heal team members, attack whole groups of enemies, and resurrect fallen comrades.

The downside, however, is a lower defence rating than other classes.

If you enjoy supporting and protecting your team mates, and attacking with magic from afar, look no further.

Archer

An Archer uses bows, crossbows, and guns to attack enemies from a distance.

Archers are agile and can inflict large amounts of damage to single foes. Unfortunately, they often have fewer health points (HP) than the other two classes.

If you want to deal deadly damage from afar choose the Archer class. Let's face it: we all want to be Legolas.

Finally, choose your character's name carefully. It costs a whopping 50 Platinum - Pocket Legends's premium currency - to change it down the line.

Quests

Pocket Legends contains hundreds of quests which range from recovering items to defeating bosses.

You can undertake a quest by talking to specific NPCs (non-playable characters) with yellow exclamation marks above their heads.

You can check out all of your active quests by hitting your name in the top-left corner of the screen and navigating to the quest tab.

From there, you can simply teleport directly to a quest by clicking on it and hitting the 'go to' button - saving yourself tired feet and a lot of time.

When completing quests - especially during the early stages of the game - try to join a group of people, especially if they're stronger than you. You'll have a better chance of surviving.

Don't be afraid to retreat from a fight. Both HP and mana - used to cast spells - regenerate slowly over time.

After completing a quest, you have to 'turn it in'. This is done by talking to the NPC that you received the task from. Again, you may teleport for quickness.

Upon successfully 'turning in' a quest, you'll be rewarded with gold - which can used to purchase items from merchants - experience points (XP), and the possibility of armour and weapons.

Levelling-up

When you reach a set level of XP - earned by defeating enemies and completing tasks - your character will level-up - earning several stat points and the occasional skill point in the process.

Stat points can be used to improve your Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence statistics, with skill points unlocking and improving a character class's special skills, such as powerful attacks or buffs.

Although Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence have largely the same effect on all character classes, there are some subtle differences.

Strength

Strength is the primary stat of the Warrior class - increasing the damage dealt by its skills.

It also increases total health and health regeneration rates for all classes.

Dexterity

Dexterity increases the accuracy of your attacks, the damage dealt, and boosts your chances of achieving a critical hit.

It also increases the damage dealt by an Archer's skills.

Intelligence

Intelligence benefits the Enchantress most, increasing the damage dealt by her skills.

It also boosts both total mana and the rate at which it regenerates.

You can improve your character's stats by devoting all points to one skill, or by splitting them between two - even all three, though, this is not recommended.

Tailor your skill progression to your style of play.

Improve the skills that suit your playing style and ignore the ones that don't - if you aren't going to use them, they're a waste of valuable points.

There's no right or wrong way to evolve your character. It's all down to how you want to play the game.

For example, placing all of a character's skill points in the Dexterity stat will make them extremely powerful in battle, but they'll suffer from lower health.

Also keep in mind that to equip certain items you have to meet their stat requirements.

Items

Items in Pocket Legends include potions, weapons, and armour, and are dropped by enemies, earned from the completion of tasks, or purchased from all good merchants.

Items differ in rarity, which is indicated by the colour of their name - grey, progressing to white, orange, green, and purple, with pink being the rarest of all.

You also have the ability to craft powerful items by combining various weaker items together with a recipe.

To begin crafting you first have to complete the mission 'Crafting Time' from Burke the Blacksmith in the Forest Haven area.

You'll then be able to create items at various points throughout the game.

Now, get out there and fight the good fight.
