[UPDATE] Gameloft's Xperia Play-exclusive BackStab confirmed for April 18th

UPDATE: Shortly after announcing BackStab's release date Gameloft revealed that the game is going to be a few days late due to a "production issue." It'll now be available on Monday 18th, rather than Friday 15th as initially indicated.]

I know. We can scarcely believe it ourselves. A new, high profile Gameloft release is almost upon us, and we still can't see exactly which game it's paying homage to.

In fact, Xperia-exclusive BackStab is dangerously close to being an original IP - or at least an IP that's no more derivative that 95 per cent of video games.

Gameloft has just announced that BackStab will be available on April 18th.

Set on a 19th Century Caribbean island, it follows the swashbuckling exploits of hulking seaman Henry Blake, who's accused of treason.

There's sword-fighting, horse-riding, and building-climbing aplenty to get your teeth into, all of which Will Wilson covered in his recent BackStab preview.

The game should be available on other platforms in about a month. More news on that as it comes.
