Sony has posted a statement on its website cutting the suggested retail price of its PSP handheld to €129.99, bringing it in line with the US price cut made back in February.

Unfortunately, the UK won't be seeing the reduced cost, a move that SCE UK has explained to next-gen.biz:

"The price drop in continental Europe has been made possible by favourable fluctuations in the exchange rate between the Euro and the Yen. Since we in the UK are vulnerable to two exchange rate calculations, pounds into Euros and Euros into Yen, we are not in a position to offer a similar cut in PSP for the UK."

According to Satoshi Fukuoka, a spokesperson for Sony, the price cut is, “aimed at increasing adoption of the player in Europe.”

However, it's also likely that Sony is attempting to clear stock ahead of the NGP's arrival, which will be available in at least one territory by the end of this year.
