Developer Vector Unit, which created Xbox Live Arcade hit Hydro Thunder Hurricane, has dropped us a line to say that its new water-based racer will be heading to Tegra 2-powered Android tablets and smartphones this summer.

Riptide GP could be described as a spiritual successor to some of the classic jet-ski games of the past like Wave Race, in that it’s just as much about skirting the choppy waters of the sea as it is about winning races and pulling outrageous stunts.

These stunts aren’t just for showboating, however, as successfully executing moves like the Superman and Can Can helps to charge your boost bar, helping to power past the opposition in each of the 12 courses.

The courses themselves are also a little left-field for the genre, ranging from factories to research stations, and their routes can be altered on the fly by discovering hidden triggers.

Riptide GP will launch with OpenFeint support, including leaderboards and achievements.
