Final Fantasy III debuts for iPhone in New Zealand App Store

Classic console role-playing game Final Fantasy III has appeared for sale in the New Zealand App Store, signalling its availability in the US and UK tomorrow.

The game has you guiding four heroes called forth by a quartet of elemental powers in order to embark on a quest to restore light to the world.

The lush 3D remake comes to iPhone and iPod touch after an initial Nintendo DS release in 2006. This single screen version retains the revamp visuals, though with revised controls and interface.

According to the game's description, Square Enix introduces "New and improved 3D visuals and story sequences exclusive to the iPhone/iPod touch." New designs for the job cards are listed.

What matters most, though, is the classic role-playing packed within that has you engaging in random turn-based battles, levelling up characters, and swapping jobs to access new abilities.

Final Fantasy III will be available for iPhone and iPod touch on March 24; the anticipated price based on the New Zealand listing is £9.99/$14.99.
