GDC 2011: Fruit Ninja developer Halfbrick resurrects Barry Steakfries in Machine Gun Jetpack for iPhone and iPad

Australian developer Halfbrick is working on a new game for the iPhone and iPod touch called Machine Gun Jetpack.

Returning to the perpetual running genre - following the fast-paced Monster DashMachine Gun Jetpack will add a vertical component to proceedings.

As loud-mouthed one-liner-loving Barry Steakfries you have to use a machine gun jetpack - a weapon from Monster Dash - to hover over obstacles and enemies. The farther you get the faster the game moves. Numerous power-ups aid you in your journey, including a robot suit and a teleporter.

You can also pick up coins during your travels and use them in a special prize-giving slot machine at the end of your run. Prizes include a second chance at life, a few extra yards for your lifeless corpse, or speed boosts for your next attempt.

Special upgrades will be available such as the ability to jump faster and can be bought using in-game currency, or via in-app purchase.

Halfbrick expects Machine Gun Jetpack to be ready some time in the summer, costing 59p/99c. Look out for a preview on Pocket Gamer this week.
