Technology resellers like American retail giant Best Buy are reportedly being notified that supply of Apple’s original iPad is being constrained and ceased ahead of the iPad 2’s media event.

A source from Best Buy told MacRumors that all iPad models on store’s database had been changed to “deleted” under status. Another shop was told by Apple that iPad supplies were “constrained”.

The fact that supplies are already drying up, and database entries are being deleted, does suggest that Apple might release the iPad 2 as soon as tonight or tomorrow, instead of waiting until later in the month or April as previously thought.

"There is no word yet on any incoming shipments or placeholders in Best Buy's systems," writes MacRumors, "but Apple is widely expected to introduce updated iPads at tomorrow's event, with availability rumored to come very soon after."

The original iPad was announced in January 2010, but took until April to hit North America, and until May to go worldwide. Delays from touch panel supplier Wintek caused the tablet to miss its intended March 2010 release date.

The iPad 2 will be revealed tonight, from 5:45 PM GMT, in San Francisco. Pocket Gamer’s doing a live blog. Of course we are.
