But this isn’t the update you've been waiting for

Microsoft finally broke its silence today revealing that the first ever Windows Phone 7 update will be rolled out across all handsets on February 21st.

Which is today, in case you’re not near a calendar.

The surprise announcement made on the official Windows Phone 7 blog means that WP7 owners should look forward to getting their hands on the update starting right now, although those not able to get it shouldn’t despair - Microsoft will be rolling it out gradually.

Brain injection

To install the update, you need to be near a computer with Zune installed. Plug in the phone, accept the update, and away you go to the magical land of copy and paste.

Or at least you would do, except that this update is merely a primer for the big one (codenamed NoDo), still expected to land sometime in March.

This update, which doesn’t come with a funky codeword, merely makes "some improvements to the way we deliver software updates" for the future, according to the changelog.
