Unless you only know people from Android Acolytes meetings or the weekly Church of Apple congregations, it’s often extremely hard to have a multiplayer game against friends on mobile thanks to the sheer range of mobile operating systems available.

Some titles have already experimented with cross-platform play - usually between Android and iOS versions of a game - but Golf Battle 3D from Imperial Game Studio is ambitiously targeting almost every major mobile system under the sun.

Don’t expect to be carefully sizing up the lay of the green in this title, though, as Golf Battle 3D is all about the most gratifying part of golf - smashing the ball as far as possible with the driver.

Despite the one-club setup, there are plenty of options for customisation, especially when it comes to your chosen golfer.

Using coins earned through play, you can purchase up to 209 different items to deck your avatar out in, ranging from relatively normal-looking golfing gear to bizarre cartoonish versions of characters like the Na'vi from Avatar.

The courses are also a little different from the norm, more resembling an athletics event (with bunkers and other traditional obstacles) in which the yards are marked out in white chalk down the length of the fairway.

Golf Battle 3D is available now on Android for £2.02 (converted price from Swedish Kroner) and will be landing on iOS and the other platforms soon.
