Fishlabs’s epic sci-fi adventure game Galaxy on Fire 2 will be a launch title for Sony Ericsson’s new Xperia Play device.

The Xperia Play, an Android 2.3 handset with dedicated gaming buttons and a dual-core processor, is the first PlayStation Certified device. It will launch at the end of March 2011 with 50 launch games, and PS1 classic Crash Bandicoot will come pre-loaded.

The critically acclaimed iPhone and mobile game has you taking a spaceship out into the cosmos to gun down baddies, take on intergalactic missions, upgrade your space ship, and work with the galaxy’s deep economy.

On Xperia Play, Galaxy on Fire 2 has been modified to work with the console’s array of gaming buttons.

You can steer your spaceship with the left D-pad or analogue stick. and use the face buttons on the right to fire the primary and secondary weapons, ignite the boost, and operate the context menu for weapons, hyperdrive, and wingmen.

The shoulder buttons pull up the navigation menu and change the camera perspective.

Michael Schade, CEO of Fishlabs Entertainment called the Xperia Play the “ideal smartphone for gamers,” citing its high-perfomance processor, fast 3D chip and high-resolution display.

”But the highlight is the gaming buttons,” he said. “The controls are unbelievably precise and neither fingers nor virtual controls occlude the action on the display. That’s what mobile gaming is meant to be.”
