Rumour: PSP 2 specs leaked
|

We're less than a day away from the rumoured announcement of the PSP 2. Just to whet our appetites even further, French website 01.net has revealed a list of specs for a debug unit that it claims were sent by an inside source.

The leaked specs indicate that the PSP 2’s combination of CPU and GPU will be remarkably similar to the one that is rumoured for the next generation of iPhone and iPad.

Both will reportedly use an ARM Cortex A9 CPU, but the difference is that while Apple is rumoured to be using a dual core MP2 version of the PowerVR, the PSP2 will boast a more potent quad-core MP4+ version.

The list also suggests that the upcoming Sony handheld will include a 5-inch OLED multi-touch screen, a multi-touch trackpad, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of flash memory which can be expanded via an SD card slot.

Other speculated features are front and back cameras, an accelerometer, gyroscope and GPS functionality while wi-fi, 3G and Bluetooth connectivity will be included.

It is important to stress that everything is unconfirmed at this point. Even if the list is accurate, it is only for a debug machine, which means anything could change before the PSP 2 is finalised. However, if these specs are true then Sony may be about to make waves in the upcoming handheld arms race. CVG
