Glu Mobile released a bunch of interesting freemium games at the end of 2010.

Both co-op shooter Gun Bros. and sim Deer Hunter have found enthusiastic audiences, but RPG Hero Project seemed to get lost in the pre-Christmas rush.

Glu CEO Niccolo De Masi says the company's not giving up on the game yet however.

"We think it offers something special in the RPG genre. We're bullish that it offers a lot more interesting gameplay than text-based games such as Mafia Wars," he says.

Get big or get out

For that reason, what he calls 'meaningful updates' are in the works.

"The fanbase is there and the reviews are very positive, so there's enough of a trajectory for us to work on it. We're not giving up on it anytime soon."

However, if - like any other online game - it can't find an audience, De Masi says the company will be ruthless.

"If we're in the same position as now in six months time, you can be relatively confident we would have redeployed those resources," he warns.
