CES 2011: Galaxy on Fire 2 enhanced for dual-core Android tablets

With tablets making waves at this year’s CES convention in Las Vegas, FishLabs has been demoing its outer-space sim Galaxy on Fire 2 on a dual-core Android tablet.

The Android version of the game has been overworked to utilise the power of the dual-core Tegra 2 chip. It boasts a texture size four times higher than its iPad counterpart, while the spaceships feature six times the number of polygons. The game runs fluidly at 1280 x 800 on both Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and 3.0 (Honeycomb). According to FishLabs CEO Michael Schade: "If you play Galaxy on Fire 2 on a Tegra 2 powered Android device it can easily compete with the experience on your gaming PC or console." The Android edition will be available in a dedicated Tegra 2 zone of the Google Market when the first Tegra 2 Android devices are launched next month, with supported tablets and phones yet to be announced.

Galaxy on Fire 2 is already available on iPad, while the iPhone version received an impressive Silver Award from us when it was reviewed last year.
