PlayStation Phone gets previewed in China
Specs, videos, photos and apps revealed
The mysterious PlayStation Phone has still not been officially announced by Sony, but that hasn’t stopped Chinese website IT168 going fully hands on with the device, revealing its specs and taking plenty of photos and videos.
We now know that the Android handset is remarkably close in dimensions to the PSP go, and sports three logos: one for Sony Ericsson, one for the company’s Xperia family of phones and a PlayStation stamp.
The slidey gadget has a 4-inch LCD screen, with a 854 x 480 resolution, and a 5-megapixel camera around back. There’s also the usual array of ports and slots - microSD, SIM and micro-USB - you’ve come to expect on a generic Android phone.
Under the hood, there’s a Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU, a 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8255 and 512MB of memory. Pretty standard fare for a modern 'droid handset, but it's up there with the likes of Google's recently released Nexus S.
And finally, we see a new app: “PlayStation Pocket”. It’s completely empty, but matches the colours and design of the PSP and PlayStation 3 interfaces. This is, presumably, where Sony’s own game collection will be stored.
Whether it will hold custom-made software, PS1 classics or downloadable PSP games is still anyone’s guess.
