Copy and paste and faster game load-ups could hit this month

At its recent CES keynote, Microsoft rather vaguely stated that a Windows Phone 7 update would be released in "the next few months."

However, the URL for the update overview on the company's website hints at a release sometime in January. The URL ends with the term 'january-update.'

New additions will include the highly sought-after ability to copy and paste text, as well as a streamlined Marketplace search experience.

Another tweak that will please gamers is the improvement to the boot-up speed of games and other apps. Microsoft says it has "whittled down the time it takes for apps and games to start up and resume."

Windows Phone 7 is designed to alert you when the update becomes available for download. Keep your eyes fixed on your handset for that inevitable - and seemingly imminent - pop-up message.
