With the likes of HTC, Samsung and Motorola hogging all the Android-related headlines in 2010, it’s easy to forget that Sony Ericsson quietly turned out some fine units of its own.

The company has just used the CES event in Las Vegas to launch a new one – the Xperia arc.

The device sports a huge 4.2-inch “Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine” screen (take that Retina display), an impressive 8.1-megapixel camera (with LED flash) and a 1GHz Qualcomm processor.

While it doesn’t quite match the likes of the LG Optimus 2X for raw power, it does top it in the OS stakes. That’s right, the Xperia arc will apparently ship with Android 2.3, known around these parts as Gingerbread.

It’s a pretty slim device, too, measuring a mere 8.7mm at its thinnest point.

According to Sony Ericsson, the Xperia arc “will be available globally in selected markets, including Japan, from Q1.”

Here’s a video of the slinky device in action.
