Indeed, one manufacturer that's certain to be kicking up a storm is PC and TV maker Toshiba, which is rumoured to be showing off a 10-inch touchscreen device, prosaically codename the Toshiba Tablet.

Slightly larger than the Apple iPad, it's designed for 1080p resolution video playback and will have a HDMI port so it can be connected to a larger screen. It's also thought the device, which will be the lead in a tablet series from Toshiba, will feature two cameras for video calls.

Other companies expected to announce similar products at CES include Motorola, value TV outfit Vizio, and AOC.

PC OEMs such as HP, Acer, Dell and Asus have already provided some details about their tablet launches.
