Broken Sword: Director's Cut for iPhone and iPad goes free

It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma

Broken Sword: Director's Cut for iPhone and iPad goes free

We don't know why or for how long, but the good news is we're kicking off a new year with Revolution's much loved original Broken Sword free on the App Store.

Remade from the PC version, the classic point-and-click adventure gained some new features in its iPhone debut, with new cartoon cutscenes from Dave Gibbons, a context-sensitive hint system, and brushed up presentation when it was released early in 2010.

Thinking man's game

Certainly Tracy loved the game, giving it a Pocket Gamer Gold award when he reviewed it.

"Featuring an engrossing story, memorable characters, and clever puzzles, it's a hallmark adventure game that has withstood the ravages of time," he said.

"Yet, Broken Sword: Director's Cut galvanises that core experience with wise modifications on iPhone and iPod touch that make this old classic a modern hit."

Also, the sequel Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Remastered - just out - is a universal app, and is priced at $6.99, €5.49 or £3.99. You can read our Silver award review here.
