Despite being one of the best games of 2009 and only costing 99c at launch, RedLynx's iPhone game DrawRace never seemed to gain the commercial success we expected, especially in the US.

It was #1 in the UK, Australia and Finland however.

Still, the Finnish developer hasn't forgotten about it and hence is celebrating the New Year by giving it away for free for one day only.

Finger at the wheel

As for the gameplay, races don't occur in real-time, but follow from the lines you trace on the screen. Draw a race line and your vehicle matches the curves and straights precisely, even adjusting to the speed at which you swiped your finger through each bend.

As Tracy explained when reviewing the game - a Pocket Gamer Silver award winner - "A simple innovation gives DrawRace enormous appeal, transforming a plain racing game into connected, intuitively controlled fun."
