Will the fabled PlayStation Phone be named Xperia Play? That’s the latest rumour, according to recent trademark filings and domain name registrations by Sony.

Sony’s mobile division, Ericsson, has filed for European Union trademarks on four Xperia brandings: namely Xperia Neo, Xperia Duo, Xperia Arc, and the curiously titled Xperia Play. Sounds like a line-up of new mobiles to us.

And, following that, one of Sony Ericsson's PR firms has registered the .com, .net, and .org versions of the XperiaPlay domain name.

The rumours for this secretive device are really heating up. Just yesterday we reported that the device might be making its debut at the Mobile World Congress this February, before heading to UK store shelves two months later in April.

If you’ve forgotten, the PlayStation Phone (reportedly codenamed Sony Ericsson Z1) is an Android-based smartphone that has a carefully curated store for well designed, PlayStation branded games.
