Two French retailers, Amazon France and PixMania, have gone ahead and plonked down a price on the pre-order pages for Nintendo’s upcoming handheld console, the 3DS.

Both sites have gone for €249,99, leading to speculation that this might be the exact price for Nintendo’s must have gadget. That price tag would translate to £210 or a massive $330.

The only confirmed price tag for the 3DS is in Japanese Yen: the glasses-free 3D handheld was confirmed to be 25,000Y at a September press conference. That translates to about £190, $300 or €224. It should be noted that Nintendo has a history of fluctuating its prices between territories, and rarely sticks to direct price conversions.

But between rough translations and rumoured prices, it should be clear that come spring 2011 you’ll probably be plonking down around £200 or $300 for a 3DS. That’s a long way off the original DS’s American launch price of $149.99.
