Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage iPhone get two player co-op in free update

Sega’s iPhone ports of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Streets of Rage have each received a free update today, letting you play in tandem with a friend.

In Sonic, as one player takes control of the super fast blue blur Sonic The Hedgehog the other gets to fly along behind as the multi-tailed, biplane-building fox, Miles “Tails” Prower. You can either team up and beat the game together, or go head-to-head in competitive races.

In Streets of Rage, two players get to man the fists of Adam Hunter, Axel Stone, or Blaze Fielding, walloping goons in the street in true '90s arcade fashion.

You’ll need Bluetooth to play both games co-op, which means the option is only available to post-3G iOS devices.

The new feature is free for owners of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Streets of Rage, so check out iTunes or the App Store on your device to update your game. If you don’t own Sonic yet, it’s £3.49 / $5.99 on iPhone and iPod touch. Streets of Rage is £1.79 / $2.99.
