Android Market set for an overhaul tomorrow

The Android Market is all set for a bit of a revamp tomorrow.

From 6am to 10pm (GMT) on Friday 19th November, developers will be unable to make any alterations or additions to the Market while Google adds some new elements. Don’t worry though – you'll still be able to use the service.

The most obvious changes for the average user will be an increased focus on promotional art. Game developers will have to submit a 1024 x 500 landscape “feature” graphic and a 512 x 512 “high-res icon”.

The screenshot count is set to increase to a maximum of eight in the near future.

Additionally, developers will have the option to add a YouTube link to a video of their game, and there will be the long-called-for addition of a ‘recent changes’ box that highlights any software updates.

Behind the scenes, Android devs will be able to preview any modifications they make to their app entry before sending it live.

There’s no mention of any improvements to the filtering system, unfortunately, so you’ll probably still have to wade through a bunch of rubbish freebies and AV girl apps when looking for the latest game releases.

Still, any improvement is welcome.
