UK freesheet Metro becomes an iPhone game publisher with launch of Super Yum Yum

Well known to anyone who commutes using public transport in any major UK city thanks to its free Metro newspaper, the company behind that operation is moving into games and app publishing.

A&N Mobile (actually part of the Daily Mail group) has launched itself with colour-based puzzler Super Yum Yum; a game that's already done over a million downloads on Java, DSiWare and PC.

New yummy

A version of the game (Super Yum Yum 3) has previously been released on iPhone, but this version is labelled as a special edition - including iOS 4 updates and OpenFeint support - and is priced at 59p.

Of course, the main reason Metro is being used as a launch pad for games and apps is that it's a big brand that's read by over 3.5 million people every week, many of who probably haven't heard of Super Yum Yum before.

Certainly it will be interesting to see how the company's plans for the future, which include releasing on other mobile platforms and more games, pan out.
