One of the first high profil twin-stick shooter Minigore has gone free for 48 hours.

Now you can get in the strangely square head of protagonist John Gore and gun down some nuisance enemies for nowt.

Developer Mountain Goat and publisher Chillingo haven't gone totally mad though: you can still pay a few coins with in-app purchases if you want to play in the game’s bonus costumes like Father Christmas, a mutated Easter bunny, a zombified John and a dual-wielding gangster.

Gun up

The game is a survival shooter, asking you to fend off waves of enemies in the hopes of hanging on until the level ends. You’ll get special bonuses for bumper kills, including special characters from other great iPhone games.

App Store Characters include the dude from Zombieville, Jake from Hook Champ, Lizzy the lizard from Sway and the pixelated grizzly from Enviro-Bear.

Minigore supports Game Center, with achievements and leaderboards on Apple’s service.

It’s currently free on iPhone and iPod touch, but will go back to its usual price of 59p / 99c / €0.79c on Thursday 18 November.
