Baseball Superstars 2009 is two releases old; now free

As soon as a developer commits to annually updating its sport titles, it also commits to throwing away a game every 12 months.

That's fine if you're EA and you can switch off the servers for your now online-supported console games.

Other companies are also getting very creative in terms of how they deal with older titles that no longer have the most up-to-date years attached to them however.

That's so 2009

Korean publisher Gamevil has played clever with its superdeformed cartoon baseball game Baseball Superstars 2009, now that the 2010 version is available for $2.99, and the 2011 version for $4.99.

For that reason, the 2009 edition been rolled into the Baseball Superstars Free release, which gives players interested in the series an open way into the game, while letting Gamevil make some money through the adverts it's now placed in the game.

You can get the game for free here [iTunes link], or check out our review of the all-new Baseball Superstars 2011 here.

The 2009 gameplay video is here.
