Toy company Hasbro has unveiled a new gadget which will turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a 3D screen. All you need to do is strap a gigantic pair of plastic binoculars to your slick Apple device, and then peer through the eye-wear like you’re doing a portable glaucoma test.

The device, which hits this spring for $30 (about £15), has a slot for your Apple gadget of choice. Once it's in there, specially made apps available on the App Store will deliver three-dimensional visuals, ready to poke you in the retinas.

The toy company has already teamed up with Dreamworks, Discovery, Sony, and Imax to deliver 3D material like trailers and features for 3D movies. Plus, LA Inc. is working on virtual travel experiences that let you explore museums and piers in 3D.

As for games, the firm only mentions a “shooter game in a virtual galaxy”. As the device straps over the iPhone and it’s screen, touchscreen games are out of bounds. But, specially made games could make use of augmented reality, 3D visuals and the accelerometer for some unique gaming experiences.

We'll see when the device hits stores in spring 2011.
