Halloween strikes me as the most pointless of all the Pagan/card-based special occasions.

Nevertheless, the special day at least attracts all the big publishers to slash prices across the board, meaning us consumers get to pick up some bargains in the process.

Nobody seems to be making many obvious connections between the time of year and the games chosen, though.

Namco has at least tried, picking the ghostly (as in they feature ghosts) Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man (59p / 99c / €0.79), as well as ripening fresh craniums for the zombie hordes with More Brain Exercises (£1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59).

I’m not sure how to link I Love Katamari (£1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39) in with the theme, so I’ll ignore it.

If none of those titles catches your eye, maybe EA’s selection will awake you from your eternal slumber. The ultimate game for puppet-masters, The Sims 3 has been reduced to 59p / 99c / €0.79, along with the ultimate game for puppet-masters with long-term goals, The Sims 3 Ambitions (£1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39)

Rock Band and Need For Speed: Shift (both £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99) are also included, and have very little, if any, connection to the day in question.

Finally SEGA’s efforts are basically just a bunch of old Genesis/Mega Drive games they’ve chucked together – Shining Force, Ecco the Dolphin, Streets of Rage – that are all now 59p / 99c / €0.79.

Two of Sega’s modern efforts, Sonic The Hedgehog 4(£3.99 / $6.99 / €5.49), and Football Manager 2010 (£1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39) are also included, and all have no connection to Halloween whatsoever.
