White iPhone 4 delayed until ‘spring 2011’

Unicorn trots back into hibernation

White iPhone 4 delayed until ‘spring 2011’

I knew it was too good to be true.

After the update to The Big A’s Apple Store app yesterday, which almost allows US punters to reserve a white iPhone 4, it seemed the unicorn would be galloping into view soon.

Sadly not.

To recap:

  • The white iPhone 4 was originally scheduled to drop back on June 24th alongside its black brother.
  • As that day approached, Apple announced that the iPhone blanc would, in fact, be delayed by a month.
  • July came, and just before it went Steve Jobs baulked AGAIN by pushing its launch date out to ‘later this year’, citing manufacturing issues.

Well, clearly that colour-flaking and light-bleeding is proving a tougher nut to crack than first, second, or third thought, since Apple has now declared that the albino iPhone 4 won’t ship until spring 2011.

A company spokesman told All Things Digital, “We’re sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone yet again, but we’ve decided to delay its release until this spring.”

As we mentioned yesterday, there's speculation that Verizon, USA’s largest telco, will be taking the wraps off its first iPhone early next year, thus ending AT&T’s iExclusivity.
