Reports have emerged that the next major iteration of Android will be hitting tablets in January.

According to Engadget, version 3.0 of the OS - also known as Gingerbread – will be handed over to tablet engineers in December. We should get a peek at their efforts in January.

HTC, Samsung, and Motorola are all set to show off their new Android 3.0-powered tablets at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which will be held in Las Vegas from January 6th.

Gingerbread is set to offer a considerable cosmetic overhaul of the Android OS, with a far cleaner and more unified visual style. Among the major additions will be the inclusion of video calling support as standard, as well as the ability to make and receive calls over wi-fi.
