Command & Conquer Red Alert goes cheap on iPhone and iPad

EA has slashed the price of strategy skirmish game Command & Conquer Red Alert in both its pintsize and tablet editions, with a new sale price on iPhone and iPad.

The touchscreen RTS has you picking a faction - either the nasty Soviets or the patriotic Allies - and deploying a mighty military fist to smush the opposition. To do so, you build bases, mine resources and train units before sending them out to fight.

If you’ve got the choice of both games, its best to bet on the iPad edition. As well as offering up better graphics and a less claustrophobic view of the battlefield, the game has an expansion pack (with the Empire of the Rising Sun faction), six bonus levels and a new triple-touch control scheme.

Either way, both games have multiplayer over wi-fi or Bluetooth, and you can even play iPhone against iPad - despite the cruel handicap of playing on a screen four times smaller than your opponent's.

Red Alert is now available, for a limited time only, for £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99 on iPad, and £1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59 on iPhone and iPod touch.
