Speaking via telecast at today's Windows Phone 7 conference, Steve Ballmer confirmed there will be no fewer than nine Windows Phone models from LG, Samsung, HTC, and Dell available in the US when the OS ships there in November.

In the UK, meanwhile, we'll be getting three models fewer, but we'll be receiving them a couple of weeks earlier.

Although the phone interface is identical across handsets and Microsoft is keen to confirm that they all operate on a common core, there’s clearly already some variety in the form factors, with chunkier looking Dell devices, larger LG screens, and the AMOLED-screen Samsung.

The specific phones for the UK market and their supporting mobile networks are as follows:

• HTC 7 Mozart (single uniframe body, unique design, 8mp camera with Xenon flash) – exclusively at Orange in UK on October 21st
• Samsung Omnia 7 (ciperbright 4-inch AMOLED screen) – available on Orange, T-Mobile, and Three
• HTC 7 Trophy – powerful and compact, smaller screen 3.8-inch, dolby sound – available in Vodafone
• LG Optimus 7 – ability o play to DLNA, scan search
• HTC HD7 – 4.3-inch AMOLED screen, with a horizontal kick-screen to put on side, sit back and relax – O2 exclusive
• Dell Venue Pro – slide out QWERTY keyboard, 4.1-inch screen
