The developer of Dynamo Kid, Mini Plane, and Gulp has just released a new Android game, Jumpy.

As the name suggests, it’s all about bounding from one platform to the next.

According to OrangePixel head Pascal Bestebroer it’s, “our tribute to the classic 80’s run and jump game genre.” The influence of games such as Mario and Sonic can be seen clearly, with an 8-bit art style and some familiar golden rings to collect.

It owes an equal debt to modern perpetual-running titles such as the iPhone's Canabalt. There’s only one touch-control (to jump, of course), with the onus being on forward momentum. The level layouts are randomised.

Nevertheless, elements of classic platformer play do shine through – particularly your ability to steer your character left and right (by tilting the device), as well as the ability to defeat enemies by jumping on their heads.

Keep an eye out for our review in the near future.
