Gundam: G Generation Touch and Gundam: Fighting Spirit heading to iPhone
Son of a gun
Famitsu has revealed that two Gundam games are on their way to the iPhone and iPod touch, although details on whether or not they’ll appear outside Japan remain sketchy at best.
Fighting Spirit is a 2D fighting game (as can probably be guessed by the title) in a similar vein to Street Fighter, only with huge metal robot suits fighting it out mano-a-mano, and not a fat sumo wrestler and army man with lovingly cropped hair.
G Generation Touch on the other hand is more a Tactical/Strategy turn-based RPG, with hundreds of unlockable (and purchasable) suits, and a very Fire Emblem/Front Mission type look to proceedings.
If you’ve not heard of the Gundam series before, you’re either not much of an anime fan or you don’t live in Japan, as it’s huge over there. In fact, it’s so big that a full-size replica of one of the robots was built by the makers, Bandai-Namco, overlooking Shizuoka Hobby Fair in honour of the series' 30th birthday.
Both games are expected to launch later this year on the Japanese App Store. We’ll let you know if they see the light of day on western devices, but in the meantime, take a look at the gameplay videos below.
