The Dev Team confirms iOS 4.1 jailbreak for iPhone and iPod

The team of wily iPhone hackers collectively known as ‘The Dev Team’ have already found a vulnerability in Apple’s latest operating system, and will be releasing a jailbreak solution soon.

Yesterday, iPhone and iPod touch users downloaded iOS 4.1 for bug fixes, HDR photography, and Game Center support.

But while jailbreak users have been cautiously avoiding the new download, Twitter user MuscleNerd confirms that the new firmware has already been hacked, and, even more surprising, there’s not much Apple can do outside releasing radically new hardware.

This is because the new solution delves deep down into the Operating System to tweak files. The previous Jailbreak, jailbreakme.com, used a software PDF exploit which Apple quickly patched. The Dev Team members say there’s no easy fix for this hack.

MuscleNerd tweeted “That latest exploit [is] confirmed to work beyond iPhone4. Also on iPad and yesterday's [fourth generation iPod touch] too.”

If you haven’t updated your iPhone or iPod touch yet, and are interested in jailbreaking, the Dev Team says hold off and stay on iOS 4.0.
