In almost every sci-fi film, the place where the aliens decide to land is somewhere in America, despite it not being part of the largest or most populous landmass on the planet. I guess extraterrestrials go where the Hollywood money is.

Likewise, Phantasy Star II has landed on the US App Store, but nowhere else, which for us European fans of old skool RPGs is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

Why get all bothered by this? Well, Phantasy Star II is considered to be one of the classics of the JRPG genre, taking a different angle from other notable RPGs of the time like Final Fantasy by taking place exclusively in a sci-fi setting.

First released in 1989 on the Mega Drive/Genesis, the game features an epic plot, a ton of interesting characters, and sonic guns, which are scientifically proven to be more exciting than swords.

If you’re in the US, you can grab the game from the App Store now for $2.99. Let’s hope the wait for the game to arrive in the Old World doesn’t take quite as long as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2.
