Apple's September press events invariably involve CEO Steve Jobs taking to the stage to announce the next big step for the company's iPod products.

Bloomberg is reporting that this year's event is set to take place on September 7th, a date that seemingly meshes perfectly with the end of Apple's traditional 'Back to School' program, as the promotion ends on the day of the press event.

It's expected that September's event will play host to the yearly refresh of the iPod family of products, but the real question is: what surprises are likely to appear at this event?

All signs point towards a reboot of the Apple TV, with the App Store in tow. According to Engadget, the new set top box will have internals similar to the iPhone 4, and will introduce a new iTunes streaming service, with TV show rentals reportedly also on the agenda.

The big story, however, concerns the exact specifications of the iPod touch 4G. The device is rumoured to closely resemble the iPhone 4 in terms of features and internal specifications.

Leaked photos of the front plate of the device show a hole for a forward-facing camera, and case manufacturers have already started putting up product shots of cases for the 4G, with gaps on the back of the case for both the high resolution camera and the flash itself.

Keep an eye on Pocket Gamer on September 7th, as there's sure to be one or two announcements coming out of this event.
