3G or not 3G, that is the question

Amazon has made its new Kindle ereader available for preorder.

The slinky new graphite device will boast the same sharp six-inch screen for viewing text clearly, even in direct sunlight, but will be 21 per cent smaller and 15 per cent lighter than its predecessor.

Your reading experience will be improved by a 50 per cent increase in screen contrast and 20 per cent faster page turns. For impatient readers, presumably.

The new Kindle will have built in wi-fi as standard, with the top model featuring 3G capabilities without the need for a monthly contract.

Top model, you say? That’s right – the new Kindle comes in two flavours, with a new wi-fi-only model being introduced for budget-conscious readers who don’t need the ability to download books from anywhere in the world.

Topping this all off is the battery life, which, claims Amazon, will last a whole month in between charges - provided you keep the wi-fi switched off.

The new Kindle will cost just £109 for the Wi-Fi-only model (making it the cheapest Kindle ever) and £149 for the Wi-Fi and 3G version.
