I logged into Pocket Gamer's group Skype conversation this morning to discover that the team has decided to talk about a game called StarCraft II rather than do any work. Thankfully, there are enough responsible adults at Pocket Gamer to keep the wheels turning.

The same can't be said of iPhone game studio Smule, which has declared Tuesday 27th StarCraft II Day. “StarCraft II is LIVE,” writes the developer on its site, “and everyone at Smule is on Battle.net right now. We will, if we can tear ourselves away from StarCraft, return to our regularly scheduled activities on Thursday.”

In a separate announcement, Smule co-founder Dr Ge Wang writes, "All our base are belong to StarCraft II. There is no realistic hope that we’d get any work done anyway, so we will instead embrace the occasion. We’ve pre-ordered copies of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty for the entire office, scheduled food catering, and channeled our inner Terran, Protoss, and Zerg in preparation for this long-awaited day.”

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is the anticipated sequel to the 1998 game StarCraft, which is the most popular pastime in South Korea ahead of eating, drinking, reproducing, and in a few very unfortunate cases breathing. It's by Blizzard, the studio responsible for World of Warcraft.

Smule has brought us Ocarina, Leaf Trombone, I Am T-Pain, and the official Glee app.
