Last week, EA Mobile gave away 1.2 million copies of Need for Speed Shift to Wave owners via Samsung Apps, but Gameloft has gone one better.

Actually, as it's gone more than one better. Technically this is infinitely better - at least for Galaxy S owners. It's giving away Asphalt 5 completely free via Samsung Apps.

Interestingly, the deal is linked into the World Cyber Games, with Asphalt 5 being the ranking game in the Samsung Mobile Challenge and the Galaxy S being the official phone.

So, from within the game, you can upload your score and try to gain a ranking in your country's qualification event.

National winners will then go forward to the WCG finals held between September 30 and October 3 in Los Angeles.

Come one, come all

You can also qualify if you don't have a Galaxy S, although you might have to buy a copy of Asphalt.

Samsung reckons that Wave owners should have Asphalt 5 pre-installed, whereas owners of other Samsung phones will have to make do with racking up their fastest times using Asphalt 4. There's some confusion, but Samsung reckons devices should come with it pre-installed.

Full details of how qualification works, and the timings for each country, can be found on the Mobile World Cyber Games website.
